It might as well be the GOP motto: "Good for me but not for thee."

The DOJ needs to indict DeSantis and Abbott on federal kidnapping charges using US CODE Title 18 --1201. 1201 pertains specifically to kidnapping without physical force, but by deceitful intentions and tactics. There is plenty of case law/SCOTUS rulings to back it up. DeSantis and every one of those that knew what the real deal was are guilty of kidnapping under section 1201. It's short and sweet. People should look it up.

@theoriginalscottmalkinson6161 Well, the money going into the migrants hands won't help them get processed. Housing, feeding, helping with paperwork to undue the intentional errors of DeSantis's goons so they aren't automatically deported, giving English classes, helping with employment are the things that they need right now. Giving each $5k won't help if they don't have the above.

@brushcreek42 Yes, they arrived here LEGALLY. They have followed the required US Immigration's protocol. I'm not sure why some people automatically assumed otherwise.

@dls951 They are all here legally. ALL of them have followed required protocol.

@luisestevez4854 For starters, DeSantis did not inform anyone they were coming. MV had nothing set up for their housing, food, translator, etc. DeSantis lied to these people to get them on the plane and even set them up by inputting their addresses as various homeless shelters around the country giving them appointments with ICE in the various cities (Seattle, Wash DC, Chicago, etc) 36-40 hours after landing and b/c they obviously were not going to be able to go to those appointments, it would have triggered the deportation process.

@cbatiau2528 They have 60 day visas and it's STILL illegal to take them across state lines using deceitful tactics. It's considered kidnapping under federal law and is spelled out in US Code Title 18 -- 1201. 1201 pertains specifically to kidnapping without physical force.

@only2genders02 DeSantis has not said that. He has not publically pushed back on this. Don't forget each one of those migrants arrived with paperwork given to them by DeSantis's staff.

@LJ-ht4zs Look up US Code Title 18 --1201. It's considered kidnapping under federal law, and 1201 pertains specifically to kidnapping that does not involve force but rather deceit. There is plenty of case law and SCOTUS rulings of people convicted under 1201 with a perpetrator deceiving the victim into getting into a vehicle under false pretenses (where they are going, what will await them, etc) and then taking the victim across state lines. I hope each of those migrants files a police report. I'm sure DeSantis won't be sending any more to Martha's Vineyard given how wonderfully they've been treated.

@kayakeraltamaha5720 They are all here LEGALLY. Every one of them has an ICE-issued visa.
