@toulousegoose1150 I actually believe McCarthy wanted out of the Speaker's position. He finally realized that the House Republicans may have the majority, but there was nothing that all of them could agree upon. McCarthy knew this made him look weak and would undoubtedly have an effect on his chances for re-election in 2024. He purposely did the Face the Nation interview so he could say those things about Democrats in order to ensure none voted for him. He has been somewhat successful in turning this around and placing the blame on Matt Gaetz. That will probably help with his voters in Bakersfield because the non-MAGA leader of the local Republican Party in his district's largest county was speaking against McCarthy before he was even named Speaker. Getting removed from his Speakership was a tactical move, imho.

tessmage_tessera There's so few actual Progressives on the ballot in my state, but I do what I can to at least get the crazies out of office. I SPECIFICALLY got property in a corner of Marjorie Traitor Greene's district and made it my homestead exemption in order to vote against Traitor-Greene. I'll keep my exemption there until she's voted out. My children who are still in college will also be changing their residency to that property address. It's a bit of a hassle for us, but it means 3 additional votes against her. Aside from donating directly to her opponent's campaign, it was the only thing available for me to do to help get her out. I'm actually thinking of dividing the property up and gifting small pieces to friends and family who also live in GA so that they can claim their residency there and also vote against her. Extreme? Maybe, but it's far less extreme than MTG, herself. The 3 times I drove up to her district, I had lunch while I was there. Most of those folks are brainwashed beyond belief. I purposely asked a handful where I could find the cheapest gas while also complaining about the cost of gas in general. As expected, this sparked comments about Biden with me then claiming "I don't follow politics, but I probably should try to vote. I'm embarrassed to say that the last time I voted, I didn't know who any of the people were!" (This is 100% false, of course, but I was hesitant to disclose that I closely follow politics and have been voting a straight Democratic ticket since 2018) The things I "learned" from my new "neighbors" aren't surprising: "Biden and the Democrats are killing babies after they're born," "MTG is a real fighter for us. She's the one you need to vote for," "We really need Trump back in the White House or we're going to become the minority. And you KNOW what that means..., " "Trump aughta pick Elon Mush to be his VP!" Like I said: COMPLETELY brainwashed. It's sad, really -just terribly sad.

@dallasburgess5329 if by "votes are for sale" you mean "You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours," then, Absolutely. That's exactly how the US Congress operates. Does the Canadian Parliament not also work like this?

@t.dmytryshyn2615 I believe it happens in all democratic-based governments that have political parties. Having political parties in government often causes the cogs of government to grind to a halt. This, the people electing those in the government are the ones that lose. Personally AND once the nut-job MAGAs are all out, I'd love to see political parties abolished in the US.

@Kimberly-dt4ko I do think McCarthy wanted out of his Speakership -- not because he didn't want to actually be Speaker, but because it was the right move to help ensure his re-election in 2024. There are more non-MAGA Republicans in his district than MAGA Republicans. The leader of the local Republican Party, a non-MAGA, has been speaking out locally about his dislike of McCarthy for quite a few months. I do think McCarthy made "deals" w/several members of the House, and they've successfully been able to have the media on both sides place the blame on Gaetz. This was all a strategic move to save his 2024 re-election campaign, imho.
