jamesevans3430 Love the sarcasm!

As long as Democrats take the House and/or keep the Senate in 2024.

To be fair, that barrel has a huge bottom.
41
@beverlymartin1414 That bottom makes up 98% of the barrel, apparently.

Nah, keep him there. Once he starts publicly giving his EXTREME viewpoints on abortion, marriage equality, and gun safety, h e's going to end up getting more Democrats elected to the House and likely the Senate. Trump is also a huge supporter of Johnson's. So, that will end up helping Biden, as well.

@xythrr Just wait until he gets more airtime and begins talking about his extreme viewpoints on abortion, marriage equality and gun safety. The constituents in those districts with moderate Republicans who also voted for Biden will begin to question why their Reps voted for Johnson.
14
@swollenaor No. They did not, at least, not in writings.

@janieenglish8978 Some people don't count the actual POTUS because he's technically not in line

@uniquelylily1166 Right now, ANY member can call for a new Speaker vote not just the Republicans, but Dems would be foolish to do so. Johnson said he was going to have that one vote rule changed. We'll see if the Freedom Caucus goes for it.

@LyndaReilly Since 2018, I have found it quite easy to vote. I no longer have to research candidates as I did when I was a true Independent. The only time I spend on deciding for whom to vote is during municipal elections, and if I'm going to request a Republican or Democratic Primary ballot since my state has open primaries. In the general elections, I pick the Democrat for every office. The reason I have requested a Republican ballot in a Primary is to strategically vote against the Maga Republicans running. That said, given the last mid-terms results, it seems Republican voters aren't keen on Maga, either.

@annepham1205 Come again?

@dielaughing73 Johnson said he's going to have that one vote threshold changed. Additionally, it would be unwise for Democrats to even call for a Speaker vote. The GOP would simply vote him back into the position. Thus, making the Dems look foolish.

@Mzee1084 I think what is going to be interesting is whose campaigns McCarthy chooses to help fund in 2024. He provided more than half of the funding for several House Reps campaigns in 2024 in hopes of becoming Speaker, but I doubt he's going to willingly do so again. People like Boebert are unlikely to have McCarthy raising millions for them again. He may even help fund campaigns for a few primary challengers so he can try and secure Speaker votes in 2024 or the next time the GOP has the House majority.

@Janpre2001 They are making noise. They're all over TV talking about how extreme Johnson is. It would be foolish for the Dems to call for a Confidence in the Speaker vote. The GOP will simply vote him back into the position-- he got 100% of the GOP to vote for him. We don't have too much to worry about right now because the Dems have the Senate and WH.
3
@Mzee1084 I think he means their constituents not the actual lawmakers. The voters in those 10 Biden districts that had moderate Republican Reps likely had not heard of Mike Johnson, either.

I think it's going to be interesting to see whose campaigns McCarthy decides to fund in 2024. He provided more than half of the funding for several House reps in 2022. He may even support the Primary campaigns of a few challenges in hopes of shoring up a few more Speaker votes for himself in 2024 or the next time the GOP controls the House. It was my understanding that's why he financially supported several campaigns, like Boebert's, last year. I believe McCarthy is secretly anti-maga/anti-Trump and would like to see more moderates in those seats. I wonder what impact getting tossed from his Speakership will have on his own re-election campaign. It's my understanding that the president of the Republican Party in McCarthy's district is campaigning against McCarthy.

@jenniferb.9404 Johnson has already said that he's going to change the rule that requires just a single vote. That said, the Democrats should not vote to remove him because the GOP will simply vote him back into the position and will endear Johnson to the Maga crowd even more. They might even turn him into a martyr. I'm interested to see whose campaigns McCarthy decides to fund next year. I know there are several Reps, like Boebert, who received the majority of their 2022 funding through McCarthy. I don't see him voluntarily tossing funds to many of them again. In fact, he may help fund a few Primary challengers in order to oust them and help secure Speaker votes the next time the GOP has the House. McCarthy is one of those lifetime politicians and I'm sure he'd like to see the Freedom Caucus and extreme MAGAs gone.

Look at what it took to get the ringleaders indicted!

@glencro2331 This is true, but as the new Speaker, I would think Johnson will do all he can to not shut down the government AND he and maga will want to fund Israel enough to compromise on Ukraine also receive funding, imho. His extreme viewpoints on abortion, gun safety, and marriage equality are the exact opposite of three-fourths of Americans. At least, he won't be able to negatively influence any of those through 2024.
