I think the reason the US version does it that way is because people are in a crisis and about to lose their homes. There's no time for therapy beforehand. So, they must go afterwards.

The US version has people who are in a crisis and about to lose their homes. They are limited to clearing the house first and then doing therapy afterwards. None of the homeowners on the British shows are faced with the city condemning their houses or having adult services called.

On the US versions, people are facing a crisis and about to lose their homes or have adult services remove them. They only have a handful of days to stop that from happening. So, the therapy must come afterwards.

If you'll notice, the US versions have homeowners in a crisis situation. They're usually about to lose their homes. So, they have to clear the homes first and offer them aftercare funds to continue therapy and organization learning.
