Their community leaders are telling them the scientific research is wrong and their close bloodlines are not the reason for their children's issues. It's very sad.

@Naharu. It's only Catholics that USED TO say condoms, well any birth control that wasn't "natural rhythm", was wrong. However, I believe the Pope "two Popes ago" eased up a bit on that interpretation, didn't he?

@eadecamp I respectfully disagree with you. First cousin marriage is only legal in the state of Alabama. Ohio, like a few other states, no longer allow 1st but do allow 2nd cousin marriages.

@Rebecca-zr1zz The whole point of this video was to point out that those in this community, Islamic Pakistanis living in Britain, do not believe the children are ill/disabled because of 1st cousins having children. They are being told by the islamic leaders in their communities that the science is wrong. There in lies the problem. The video was made to bring awareness to it!

@sabrinaleedance It was legal only in the state of Alabama as the US's government leaves that decision to individual states to decide. I learned about Alabama in the 90s, but I have no idea if the law has changed. On a side note, at the same time Alabama also had the youngest age, 14 yrs old, allowable to marry without parental consent. Mississippi also allows marriage at 14 but only with consent. I'm guessing the 1st cousin marriage laws may be the reason for Alabama being the target of so many "people there are backwards" type jokes ??

@samstevens7888 The only state that allows 1st cousin marriages is Alabama. They also have the youngest age allowable to marry without parental consent-14yo

@TamarindTreeCo From the video, it seems as though many of these marriages are arranged marriages between a 1st cousin living in Britain and the other being brought over from Pakistan. So, it's not fair to say "they're attracted to each other". Also, it stated that SOME Pakistans are just now opening up to the possibility that science might be right and genetics IS the reason for these 1st cousin offspring disabilities. Leaders in the Pakistani world are teaching them that the science is there. Did you you not watch the part with the interview of the Islamic man who denied the research was there and initially wouldn't even look at the scientific research the interviewer brought. I don't agree with 1st cousins having children, but I also know that it's genetic Russian roulette. These people are being told by their personal community that it's fine and holds no risk for children. The WHOLE point of the video is to help speed awareness!!

In the grown-up's world, you cannot just grab a false idea that pops into your head and then roll with it as though it were fact. You've written a novel-lengthy diatribe about me and your made-up idea that I married my sister. That's not how things work in real life -- of course Trump does the same thing. So, I don't know why I'd expect less from you, likely a child of a parent who voted/supports him. It must be horrible growing up in a racist home. I am and others in the "normal, free-thinking" world of society offer our apologies, and I will pray for you. BTW, I, like both of my parents, do not have siblings. Given that, I hope your intellect has developed far enough along for you to understand that means I also don't have any cousins. I'm not going to reply to any further comments of yours directed towards me because it simply wouldn't be appropriate given either your very young age AND/OR you possessing a very young, immature if you will, intellect. I didn't "pick on little kids" when I was a child, and I'm certainly have no desire to do so now!

MoodyMami #1 Yes, marriages within family trees were once an encouraged practice in order to protect and keep wealth and property within a family. Until only VERY RECENTLY is was an encouraged practice amongst nation's royal families.
