@scarscar9278 I'm so sorry. It's incredibly difficult to find yourself in a position where you have to question everything you were taught as fact for years often decades. I'd like to add that the ring that has helped me many others is to seek out a support group that's main theme relates to your trauma. Like "Support Group for Ex-Mormons" or Adult Survivors of Child Mol-est-ation. Totally changed my life. Now, you can even find meetings online where you don't even ha w to show yourself.

@rypdx if they did not report it and there was no W2, the IRS's software won't alert on the return. That said, if there was a W2 issued but the taxpayer did not declare it, the IRS can consider the taxpayer committed fraud and there is no 7 year time limitation for tax fraud. The fact that you know about it, is an indication that your friend, even if he didn't know about it when he fed, he has since realized. So, fraud. The IRS is the only entity that a person in the US can go to Debtor's Prison for not paying a debt to them.
