Whatever happened to the Sunflower? Back in the late 80's, I read about a new lighting invention from Japan called the Sunflower. It was a big dish that sat on the roof of a building and gathered sunlight through the multiple dish indentations that made the thing look like a big steeldrum. The sunlight was then dispersed through the building by means of fiber optic cables in bundles. The outlet for the light was a series of little ducts filled with the cables, that could be placed wherever they were needed. The whole building would be lit by the sun, with the only cost being the Sunflower itself and the installation of the fiber optic cables and ducts. Minimal maintenance since the only power the thing used was to rotate it slowly through the day as it tracked the sun, which energy easily came from what it was collecting. It seemed like such a genius idea, so thrifty and logical... and that was it. I never heard a peep about it again. Why isn't it a thing everywhere? Why are we STILL lighting our buildings with electricity when we could be lighting them with sunlight???

@alexeypolevoybass ...which is why solar batteries can be added with little effort.
