The reason the American Dream has been disappearing is that it was never a real phenomenon to begin with. It was created by the government in the form of G.I. loans made available to returning soldiers from WWII. The government propped up this middle class dream, but when people of color began rising up and asking for, and then demanding, a piece of that pie, the government began withdrawing its support. At the same time, the massively high tax rates for the very wealthy began to erode, from 80% - 90% down over the years. All this killed the American Dream, which was aptly named since it was never a true reality. And that's why we will never be able to regain it - it's not possible on its own without some huge amount of money injected into the economy to make it possible. The rich will always be rich, and the majority of the people will always be poor. That's the reality of money and how it works on the world.
