  1. It's not exactly true to say there's no place for looting or violence. They have a place - they drive people towards peaceful solutions. No peaceful protest movement has ever succeeded on its own. They've always succeeded because there've always been simultaneous violent protest movements. Gandhi didn't win India on his own - the very violent protests going on all over the country forced the English government to realize it was either deal with HIM or go to war with all the activists blowing things up and rioting. Peaceful protest on its own makes the protestors feel good, but there's no impetus for those in power to listen, unless there's a worse alternative.
