Dude, the whole business model depends on doing an end run around the law. If they made them employees, they'd have to pay decent wages, offer benefits, follow the law, etc. The whole thing would collapse. That's what the so-called "sharing economy" is about - it's sharing in the sense that Sharkey meant by it.

GOOD. Enough with this crap of corporations getting to do end runs around the law. Any business model that depends on screwing its workers should not exist. IF YOU CAN'T TREAT YOUR WORKERS RIGHT, YOU SHOULDN'T BE IN BUSINESS.

The city is not in compliance. If they stop the renovations, the homeowners THEMSELVES will pressure the city to do what it's legally obligated to do. This is called "politics". And it works.

Chadwicked B AHAHAHHAA. Nice try, asshole. But no, this is NOT how the world was created, and it certainly is NOT how it's required to be. If everyone had your attitude, nobody would be paid anything and we'd all be slaves to the three richest assholes in the world.
4
They need to be dismantled. Their whole business model depends on not following labor laws.
3
@tedbaxter5234 Wow. I've rarely seen a corporate shill as transparent as you are, Sparky.
3
That is not the fucking point and you know it. There's nothing wrong with contractors. The problem is forcing all workers onto a bogus "contractor" status just to flout the law and not have to pay benefits or follow any of the labor laws.
3
Fuck you. We don't need shitty-paying jobs where we get treated like fucking widgets.
3
Jesus Christ, FINALLY. It's about time we started taking this goddamn thing seriously!!!

More people should plant moss lawns instead of grass. Moss retains moisture better, never grows high, and needs only a fraction of the maintenance of grass. In a situation like this, it's much safer to have moss, which provides a better barrier to fire.

One gentleman saved his home from the Paradise fire by turning on his sprinklers before he evacuated. He returned to a burned out landscape with his house and grounds perfectly fine in the middle of all of that destruction.

@yapandasoftware Yes, asshole, I DO know, because I USED TO WORK FOR COUNTY GOVERNMENT. I was one of the people who USED contractors. Which, by the way, are NOT fake employees - they are OUTSIDE BUSINESSES that provide services to the government AS PART OF THEIR BUSINESS. But since you've clearly never worked for any government entity (or are a fucking troll, which is probably the truth), you've fallen for the stupid corporate bullshit about "contractors" being anybody the company doesn't want to hire. This is why workers are so badly treated - because so many people in this country are TOO IGNORANT TO KNOW WHEN THEY'RE BEING FUCKED.
2
@Queen_Popsicle Oh, I know. But it's so much fun to poke the idiots going on as if they have any clue what they're talking about. ;)

^^^ FAKE COMMENT ^^^ Go home, Sergei. Your vodka's waiting for you.
2
I hope the mail carrier that did that ends up in jail.

Use the dedicated ballot boxes!!

So give the corporations even MORE leeway to flout the law? Yeah, that'll work. And people wonder how things like communism ever get started. * eyeroll *

@brianhood4182 You're welcome! I've never lived in a place with a lawn, so I've never gotten why anyone would want one (other than as a play space for kids, but you don't see that happening much.) I recently read about moss lawns, and it seems like such a sensible and logical alternative.
1
@brianhood4182 Yes, it can be broken up, but it also heals itself much more easily than grass does. If you keep it watered, it will fill in very quickly. Plus, it's just prettier than grass. :)

@brt5273 Succulents would make the space unusable.
1
Nope, didn't feel it. It didn't make it this far west.
1
@bfpv6803 You're welcome. Taxi companies are subject to strict regulations that these leech companies are clawing tooth and nail to avoid. I've never used them and never will.
1
@OmegaGHOZT Sure, because the entire business model isn't designed to screw the drivers as much as possible.
1
Gods, these "godly" people are utterly disgusting. They think the law doesn't apply to them because god or something.
1
Clearly you've never worked for one of these leech corporations.
1
@wannawin95 LOL, Jesus Christ, what a fucking child.
1
You shouldn't smak a kid EVER. Disabilities or not.
1
@gavincurtis ALL of them? Really?? So you live in California? Oh, that's right - you DON'T. All you see is the handful of assholes fleeing like rats, so you assume you know what's going on HERE. That's cute. Okay if I tell everyone how your backwater state is filled with morons and cousin-fuckers? NO?? Gee, why would THAT be, I wonder? Could it be because I DON'T LIVE THERE and therefore DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON THERE?
1
Keen R And yet, the only source of income is EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE for most of the people doing it. What, you actually fell for that line about how it's just a side gig? Holy shit, you really haven't looked around you, have you? Go shill somewhere else.
1
@swanee9599 Wow. The privilege just drips right off you.
1
@live life Fuck off, troll. Your entitled little ass knows nothing of the problems of working people. Fucking corporate shill.
1
@live life When the fuck did I say anything about where I work?
