  1. Jesus, do any of you READ? The reason Fear and Loathing starts with that line is that THE BOOK STARTS WITH THAT LINE. So does A Clockwork Orange - the line "There was me, Alex..." is the first line in the book. I haven't read High Fidelity, but I'll bet that book starts with the movie intro, too. The Body, Stephen King's story that was the basis for Stand By Me, ALSO starts with the same line as the movie.

  2. LOL. The point of The Godfather opening isn't that the American Dream lets us down. It's that Don Corleone and his Mafia family ARE THE AMERICAN DREAM. The dream is about getting ahead and doing well for your family - and that's EXACTLY what Corleone did. It's called "irony" - try looking it up sometimes.
