  1. We have to drop this gender-specific titling. "Second Gentleman" has a faintly ridiculous sound to it simply because there is no FIRST Gentleman. How about First or Second Spouse? That would cover all the bases.

  2.  @hanliddlee  Exactly the point. Until now. The term is no longer relevant. Having a "Second" when there is no "First" is just clumsy. Changing it to "Spouse" would acknowledge that it's a different situation now. Yes, it would be "Spouse" whether the person is male or female. The fact that it's been "Lady" up til now in no way means it should remain that way. Just because something is "tradition" doesn't mean it's actually useful when things change.
