  1. The irony is that as time went on, all that emphasis on personal fulfillment and higher wages ended up pushing all the "unfulfilling" work onto immigrants. This meant that our society came to rely more and more on immigrant labor, since they're the ones capable and willing to do the hard physical and "unfulfilling" work which makes up the lion's share of a society's work. And we're now engaged in ridding ourselves of that vast workforce - with NO ONE left to fill in the gaps.
