  1. How not to drown in the awful: Remember that the vast majority of people throughout history have lived under some kind of authoritarian rule. Remember how utterly WEIRD the American experiment has been in terms of human history. Accept that the chances of that experiment actually working out and lasting is very small considering human nature and how our self-obsessed, domineering species tends to behave, for the most part.
