@dominic.h.3363 Cherry-picking cases only shows outliers exist, tardigrades are carnivores as are jellyfish and coral, none of them are intelligent. Gorilla are herbivores and they while not sapient are not stupid, or consider elephants, they are also herbivorious and are intelligent as well. Both exceed the intelligence of the majority of carnivorious animals, and like the smartest among them, they ate social. Socialization is a much stronger indicator of potential for intelligence in higher complexity animals than diet. I still hold that we do not know enough though to anticipate what could or could not be intelligent. Emergant complexity simply has too many variables to assume the coding will end up the same language translating to the sane organelles. If it is that uniform, aliens are the least interesting discovery we`d be making scientifically (not to mention philosophically). My point was there are examples at both ends for both carnivores and herbivores so it potentially factors out. We know there are sapient herbivores anyway (at least in potentia) though if one includes variations in human diet. But hey I hope you are right. I would much rather have that than intelligent cow-equivalent people.

@dominic.h.3363 True, but it is uncertain how much that is owed to our evolutionary history and solar system and terrestrial conditions. A biosphere sample size of 1 is not very large. I wonder what simulations show related to this though.

@AtSafeDistance First of all, acting defensively out of fear for oneself and one`s loved ones is not stupidity, it is simply self-defense oneself and one`s loved ones. Also it was 70 years ago, our knowledge of the Universe let alone what aliens might be like was much more limited to what we know now. Knowledge of galaxies was only 40 years old at that point and we could barely imagine what it might be like out there. This is not to mention that much of what we know of quantum mechanics was barely mapped out and not proven at that time. Besides if the aliens were truly benevolent and intelligent, they would not have been so readily antagonizing obviously scared people. If indeed they were aliens, I would not say that all the blame falls on the family. There were children in the house remember. It is very easy to blame someone when you have not been in such a situation like that. Now if you have and did not, I apologize in advance. But if you have not, imagine suddenly seeing beings that you do not understand coming to you at your home inside which, is your family who you see are scared and these beings arw acting erratically and doing strange things. It is not clear what they are and are not capable of. Don`t imagine it like a picture or video, it is a physical creature out there. You have a gun and they are not going away. What else are you going to do? If the aliens wanted to communicate, after the first bullet would have been a great time to say, write something in the ground or on a tree or the like. Or maybe just leave the people alone rather than continuing to come around after it is clear they don`t want you around. If there is to be blame, it goes to both parties really. Just one of those risks when a first contact occurs. I am sorry for the gruff response, but I felt it was necessary due to the nature of your anger and hateful judgement that I believe was an unfair and rash judgement.

@DISTurbedwaffle918 You seem to only understand God`s left hand, not His right hand. You do not grasp sufficiently the heights of God`s Goodness or the way His Divine Immanence is just as vital to God`s relationship to His Creation as His Divine Transcendence. God is both the firm hand of love of a disciplining Father and the open hand of love of a nurturing Father picking up His children. God is not selfish or haughty. He punishes for our good, not to raise Himself up. He does not need our recognition of Him as God, Creatoe, Lord, Master, and Savior, we do. Why is God these?

@dominic.h.3363 I guess I could see either method justifiably being used even concurrently. Assuming no FTC or FTL then probes may make most sense from a logistics and safety stance, unless some faction decides to hit the stars for whatever reason. If FTC is somehow possible though what could be done is essentially a robotic drone controlled by a creature via a virtual reality uplink. Best of both worlds. I am mainly skeptical of Van Neumann probes because with all the time life could have been exploring the galaxy, it is strange that we have not found any evidence of one, even a broken one anywhere.

@dominic.h.3363 I am not saying I am definitely right. No matter who is, I certainly gained some good food for thought on how life might be out there. If they were aliens, do you think they were more likely beings in suits or some kind of robot?

@dominic.h.3363 That is very true, but presumably if probes are the go to method, should we not expect someone to put some primitive transmitters on some and communicate with the primitives? Even if it is the alien equivelant of a door-to-door salesman or tele-evangelist? Or hey, we live on a habitable world, why are no broken ones somewhere here or nearby? Maybe we are just boring.

Knowing the Lord can not be Just and be a hypocrite, consider what this means for His dealing with His enemies. Also considering, though be would soon betray Him, the Lord Jesus still ate and drank witb Judas as well as many sinners including both prostitutes and tax collectors and scribes and Pharisees. And on the Cross He forgave those who killed Him. Our enemyship to God is our doing, not His. God is Love and He wishes all to come to Him and died out of unfathomable, incomprehensible, and unimaginable Love and Mercy for us even as He declares judgement by being God among us and we respond by.Crucifying Him. Christ's redemptiom is for all. We who are in Him must bring others to Him,,or else we are dead and bead no fruit. If we have not charity, we are nothing. God bless you my brother Christ. As Christ has done for you, go and bring the Light of the World to those in this world, shrouded in darkness. The well do not need the Physician, but the sick do. God desires mercy, not sacrifice. @Intelwinsbigly Stop thinking with the logic of this world. It does not matter what is done to us here, if we thrive, the Church soars, if we suffer She spreada as new shoots watered in the blood of the martyrs. It is not a matter of `modern` Christians, it is a matter of being Christ`s disciple or not. Fight with the weapons of God, not the world. The Lord will succeed, we our own power and ken, will always fail because we presume on God`s blessing if wr act on our own whims and initiatives. We are servants of God. We act as and when He says, not as we desire. Fight as Christ does, upon the Cross, in obedience and meekness to God`s Divine Will and Providence and fighting for the Truth in Charity with faith and trust in God to succeed. Doing all we can yes, but NEVER departing from Christ`s teachings. For then we have already defected to Satan, our true enemy, and his army. Trust in Christ, not your own efforts or plans.

EmperorJuliusCaesar That has less to do with percentage of those who recieved education and more to do with the philosophical bents that shaped what many consider modern values. And the fact that such views and their affiliated scholarship are not taught in our public infrastructure. It is cultural reasons that led to that recent alternation. It did not happen instantly either and it is not universally accepted even today.

Our technology is godlike perhaps, but we as individuals have grown weak and decadent, fattened and pampered by the spoils of our own success. As compared to ages past, we have grown pathetic. We do not have to be, but in so many ways, we have atrophied as a people, as a culture.
