As a devout Catholic, I wanted to thank you for giving an utterly unbiased historical account of a figure I knew little of. We can not learn properly from history if we paint over it. God bless you.

Sounds like he would have made a successful monk.

@wayneresper7761 And how exactly do you know? They well may be a d if they died for Christ are in Heaven. Exactly how is an eternity of pure perfect fulfillment, joy, peace and communion not a blessing?

@mike62mcmanus Check the Didache. What does it say?

@mike62mcmanus Yes, that was both very early and highly regarded in the early Church.

@mike62mcmanus Why do you call Christ a liar?

@mike62mcmanus I think I owe you an explanation for that since it likely seemed just like a polemiocal attack, but I have justification for my claim. If the Church was persecuted to death by 100 AD, first of all that was barely 20 years after the last Apostle's death and the Church was still not very well known in the greater Roman world. More importantly, this is only 23 years after the fall of the Second Temple in Jerusalem and there would still be people alive who knew and saw Christ in their youth. Do you really wish to claim that the Apostles were so incompetent and Our Lord chose and prepared them so poorly that the Church could not even last one full generation after the Ascension of Our Lord. And if the Church died the gates of Hades did indeed prevail against it making Our Blessed Lord Jesus's promise to St.Peter that the Gates of Hades shall not prevail against His Church false and void and thus that Our Lord lied to St.Peter. If one is a Christian, this is a very strange, dangerous and ill-advised course of theory to take on the history of Christianity. If you are not a Christian, well then explain why you think that and how you can justify your claim. In the future, if you are not a Christian please just be up front about that you do not believe that way we can have an open discussion without subterfuge.

@mike62mcmanus Thank you for taking these efforts seriously my brother in Christ. It warms my heart to have someone who I can dig into these with. I will reply a bit later as I am in no condition to reply right now and must go to Church. But today is the Feast of the Ascension in the diocese I am under though more often it is last Thursday. Our Lord has given me the best piece of evidence I could use, from Sacred Scripture itself. And a reading from earlier this week gives support for that to seek to be baptised in Christ implies one must seek all Three Persons of the Most Holy Trinity. God bless you, through Our Blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
