Not how government spending works. And nobody ever makes that argument when it comes to other groups receiving government assistance.

@Ralph-rr9iv there are plenty of groups that receive government assistance/subsidies that aren't criticized for receiving government aid. Nobody complains about government assistance when the government spent trillions of dollars on middle eastern wars, bailing out wall street, or tax cuts, or loan forgiveness for businesses. Nobody complains about college students being awarded grants and fellowships. It's only when the government helps the poor/disadvantaged is this anger over helping others comes out.

@Ralph-rr9iv not really. They're both forms of government aid. many people don't get angry at aid or debt being paid for the rich, but they get angry if it helps the poor or college students. The anger over debt relief and assistance isn't generated by the raw numbers, it's generated by the fact many Americans believe they get no help in exchange for helping said groups(welfare recipients and college students with debt).

@Ralph-rr9iv If the debt is based on a scam and/or injustice, then it becomes a societal problem, not an individual one. Don't be mad at the victims (students who want better lives for themselves), be mad at the system for wanting to make college so expensive only the rich can afford it. I can't believe people are angry "you want to go to college and get better jobs!"..yes... Contribute to society...not work minimum wage jobs or be on welfare...want to save and invest...those sound like normal things that people ought to do. The real reason there is a student debt crisis isn't about the cost but the benefits - it's about ensuring there is disadvantaged, a lack of access for people that are deemed inferior intellectually, racially, economically.
