@pizaliasta8369 Minimum wage jobs are dead-end and give you no skills.

@voulafisentzidis8830 exactly. It's about power and control.
3
It isn't free for poor people.
3
@voulafisentzidis8830 I said many people believe poor people don't deserve to survive or thrive.
2
Yep. UBI empowers workers.
2
Because the core problem is that those in power and many Americans DON'T want poverty to end. Rich people want servants. Middle class wants cheap prices and goods. Many others think poor people don't deserve to be middle class.
2
@Gus_Magnusnot everyone can find a roommate or should have to in order to live IN THE RICHEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD.
2
@Gus_Magnus if you are implying and believing that poor people must experience hardship in order to be motivated to do more, then you have a sick mindset.
2
@Gus_Magnus you have a sick mindset if you expect poor people to suffer.
2
Exactly. It's also why corporations support immigration.
2
@robdillon8922 to make up for a living wage deficit.
2
@Lildoc911 I agree with you. I just see many people demean minimum wage workers like myself. I'm making $8.50/hr at McDonald's while they make millions yearly.
2
@Lildoc911 it's okay. I always forget to add context to my comments.
2
@Lildoc911 the real reason many people think a living wage is wrong is because they judge people by skills. They believe Minimum wage workers deserve poverty. A while ago, a pizza owner paid his employees based on profits, not skills, the workers ended up making $78/hr. The main complaint was "they put slices on a dough! They don't deserve to make $11,000 a month!"
2
@fhattest2301 that the risks we are unwilling to take shows us our priorities. If it is more important to avoid the risk of inflation than raise the minimum wage what we're really saying is poverty is acceptable.
2
He'd cry
2
Republicans want poverty
2
Except many conservatives hate minimum wage workers and believe they deserve poverty. They view working in fast food and retail as a punishment. They also believe poor people need to experience deprivation and hardship in order to be motivated to succeed.

My replies are gone.
1
@voulafisentzidis8830 why are my replies gone?
1
@voulafisentzidis8830 I agree with you. Here is the REAL reason many conservatives hate a living wage is because they believe poor people don't deserve to be middle class. It doesn't matter the policy choice: living wage, unions, welfare, the end result is the same: poor people are getting something they have not earned. It's ingrained into conservative ideology that one must earn a decent life.

@voulafisentzidis8830 love political analysis, but not discourse. I've wanted to be a political journalist because of this(Wage analyst).
1
@voulafisentzidis8830 thanks I will

I made $10.50/hr as cashier. I received no pathway to promotion. No way to pay for college. Zero benefits. Rent is $2,000/month. My healthcare costs $739/month. I'm in community college. I will need a scholarship or grant in order to afford a car.

Wow
1
It happened in California because Newsom caved to political pressure. The general overall minimum wage increase was scrapped.
1
What you're using here is facts, THAT is your problem. The real reason many people oppose a living wage minimum wage is because they believe it's immoral for poor people to demand a status of life they do not deserve.
1
Poor people are still hated.
1
Inflation is an acceptable risk. What you're saying is you prioritize avoiding the risk of inflation than helping workers have a living wage
1
@chrisglosser7318 I understand what your point is from the economic standpoint. I'm speaking from the ideology standpoint. Risk and Context define politics. The truth of our politics lies in the risks we refuse to accept. This is because A. Priorities are not created equal. And that is because B. We are neither capable nor willing to help everyone Many minimum wage critics say that it would be magnifying inflation, automation, unemployment, the deficit, etc. The truth of our politics lies in the risks we refuse to accept, and it is worker solidarity, not poverty, that is the risk we find unacceptable.
1
@chrisglosser7318 Okay then.
1
@chrisglosser7318 my replies are gone, but I understand.
1
@chrisglosser7318 do I seem delusional?(How did I argue)
1
@chrisglosser7318 my reply was deleted again. Screw it.
1
@All-due-respect-I-disagree LOL.

Inflation is an acceptable risk

I made $10.50/hr as cashier. I received no pathway to promotion. No way to pay for college. Zero benefits. I'm 29. Therefore, I'm a loser.
