  23.  @jonpark6650  I'm ranting here but if I were a journalist I'd talk about all the poverty in America. Just to start. The minimum wage isn't high enough to support yourself, part-time workers are denied benefits, medicaid expansion was denied, leaving millions of childless adults without healthcare, there isn't enough scholarship money to send all poor people to college, and even there was, less than 1% of students get a full-ride. It's stacked against the poor and towards the rich

  24. I'm going to community college at 29 and live with my dad on welfare. I lost my food stamps due to the work requirements. I'm on Medicaid because my medication is $2,000 a month, working a minimum wage job couldn't cover that.

  32.  @linanicolia1363  I don't know how you figure that. I'm pursuing a bachelor's degree in physics. I have to make below $20k or above $50k to get healthcare. I have to be far below the poverty line or I risk losing healthcare, or I have to be far above the poverty line but then I risk not getting my degree. I lost my food stamps. I already lost my mom too.

  36. I had to rely on welfare/Medicaid because higher education doesn't offer adequate health insurance. But because welfare isn't an unconditional cash transfer, I couldn't use my health insurance to take care of my sick mom. She was sick for six years, on oxygen, from 2017-2023. She ultimately passed away. The stress from this caused me to flunk out of school, lose financial aid, and not get it back despite the financial aid office knowing what happened to my sick mom. Screw this POS country.

Even getting one doesn't change the fact most jobs pay at or near poverty wages, offer few benefits, and no job security(at-will employment). Yes making $7.25 an hour in USA Is more than the $3 a day some people in Africa live on. But RELATIVELY speaking, their lives are exactly the same- no access to high quality and affordable health care, no access to an education, inadequate or nonexistent housing, hunger, unlivable wages, and no social mobility.

  42. I make $10.50/hour as a cashier and $900/semester as an intern. I use welfare to get by. Albeit i do so while attending higher education, but still. I don't see how the stock market represents my well-being.
