I make $10.50/hr as a cashier. I'm on food stamps.

@serif392 yep.
3
It makes me sick to my stomach.
2
@danmoore6062 yes.
2
22/hr is still a poverty wage.
2
I'm in North Carolina and make 10.50 an hour as a cashier. Even if I made $22 an hour I would never be able to afford college or a house.
2
How do you feel about the $15 minimum wage?
1
@skyfirefly76 many more questions for you: why do you oppose a federal minimum wage but you're fine with local communities doing them? And are you implying there are other things you don't want implemented at the federal level? And isn't job loss an acceptable cost to pay if it means the remaining jobs keep people out of poverty? I'd rather to go from 10 jobs to three if the other seven paid paid people below poverty wages.
1
@skyfirefly76 okay.
1
Exactly.
1
@BadAssElf810 yep.
1
Price increases have happened anyway with the minimum wage being stagnant. Nothing is priced for people making minimum wage.
1
Ok.
1
How would you feel if they made $15 an hour? 25? 50?
1
How would you feel if they made $15 an hour? 25? 50?
1
Lol
1
@chrlpolk Because from the '70s to late '90s we outsourced / downsized/automated our manufacturing sector down to a barebones minimum and then its place were service sector jobs.
1
@davidpaulsen1510 qualified employees? That's messed up too.
1
Yep.
1
Ok.
1
How would you feel with their cashiers made $100,000 a year.
1
Ok.
1
Yes because it's now the job no one really wants. In a way fast food employers did this to themselves, by dumbing these jobs down to have no skill they've created a position in society that's worse than a rapist.
1
@danmoore6062 I wish we all had the same values.
1
What do you mean they're asking for too much? How do you have the right to tell them that the jobs are meaningless?
1
@AnAceism I'm not an idiot. Value is subjective, we can decide to deem any job meaningful or meaningless.
1
Correct.
1
$100,000 a year per cashier.
1
That's messed up.
1
What the profits places like Chick-fil-A make their cashiers could make six figures.
1
Thank you for mentioning that poverty is a systemic problem.
1
Don't you think it's messed up that they're forced to work part-time?
1
I'm 28 and a cashier at a supermarket. I make $10.50 an hour and I'm forced to work part-time so I don't get benefits.
1
@UniqueBreakfastTaco McDonald's is a real job. Or are you suggesting they're paid imaginary money and McDonald's is an imaginary business?
1
@UniqueBreakfastTaco You are aware that most people who work in fast food joints / supermarkets are not teenagers right? You are aware that there are not enough management positions for everyone to get promoted to right? You can't honestly expect every worker at Walmart to all become store manager at once.
1
@UniqueBreakfastTaco most Americans are either not qualified or not willing to do the type labor of immigrants do for the type of pay they get.
1
@UniqueBreakfastTaco not willing to work for poverty wages makes you human not incompetent. What next, not wanting to work without benefits like PTO makes you incompetent too? And us government axed free trade school and university making college unaffordable for many millions of Americans like myself.
1
@UniqueBreakfastTaco if you pay taxes it's your money you're getting back, it isn't someone else's.
1
@UniqueBreakfastTaco If we agree to fund something like it is an entitlement. I agree to fund police. Are police departments commie entitlements? Roads? Bridges? Healthcare?
1
Maybe they should make more from working then? Welfare shouldn't pay someone so much to where they can live without working. Make it to where the pay is so high from working that being on welfare is a disincentive.
