  1. The problem with this is reforming healthcare isn't profitable. Especially for poor people such as myself. Poor people won't work for slave wages if they have government benefits, hence why i fall in the medicaid gap.

  9. I can't afford the $10,000/year tuition at my community College, nor does the community college system offer enough money to cover living expenses. I was forced to get private health insurance after losing medicaid, and I still lack dental and vision coverage.

  19. @himenyx153  north carolina denied medicaid expansion, meaning anyone past 25 years of age who has no kids or disabilities loses medicaid. And cannot receive it, no matter how low their income is. I lost medicaid when I turned 26 despite still being poor. I can't get food stamps either, because the government states anyone enrolled in higher education is disqualified even if they're in poverty. This was temporarily removed because of the pandemic, but reinstated. Thus, I got food stamps for one month, then lost them again.

  25. Last spring, I was poor but received no medicaid. My mom died from lack of health care. Screw USA.

Last spring, i was taking 2 classes at community College, 1 class at a 4 year university, being a cashier at a supermarket, being an intern, volunteering, and taking care of my sick mom all at once. I received no healthcare from the schools, job, or internship. I received no medicaid due to NC denying medicaid expansion : I'm poor but "able-bodied." I.e. I'm 28 with no kids or disabilities. My mom was very sick, and i had no health insurance to take care of her. I couldn't afford health care out of pocket to fully take care of her either. So i had to choose: leave my educational dreams to die or leave my mom to die. I chose to help my mom. Now, because my grades slipped, I've lost what little financial aid i had, given no do over (despite my school knowing my mom was sick and died), and I STILL have no healthcare.
