My mom died in sickness and poverty, and medicaid was expanded after her death. I lost section 8 housing and food stamps, leaving me homeless and starving if not for my dad taking me in. And news ignores the poor. I will never forgive this country for causing her death.

@Turkey_Hill welfare, healthcare, and education are all policy choices. Nothing about the way these systems are structured is accidental or out of our control. The government restricts welfare in order to force poor people into minimum wage jobs. And opposes universal health insurance so people are forced to accept medical debt.

@Turkey_Hill I hate that I can't see replies. Welfare is restricted like I said, to force poor people into minimum wage jobs. If all jobs provided livable wages/skills welfare would not be in such huge demand. They don't. That isn't on workers. That is on society at large for wanting certain jobs to be filled with poverty, not without it. Besides, Welfare for the rich never has had draconian sanctions.

@jadegreenleaf781 there's a double standard in USA. Poor people are expected to be shamed for doing better but not the rich. The poor are expected to suffer endlessly for minimal rewards but the rich receive limitless money for minimal effort.

@Turkey_Hill I said welfare is restricted to ensure people are desperate enough to work low wage jobs. The government and rich oppose anything which EMPOWERS workers(Robust welfare, universal health care, free college) And supports anything which DISEMPOWERS workers(weak labor unions, illegal immigration/open borders, competitive labor markets).

@Turkey_Hill ah okay. The true opposition to universal healthcare (by the rich) is because people won't accept medical debt or bankruptcy anymore. They'll quit their job that doesn't offer healthcare. It's about having power over others to do society's dirty work. The ideological reason is because many people want poor people to "earn" things like healthcare, but in the same breath, expect the rich to not suffer one bit to receive the same thing.

@Turkey_Hill welfare programs are restricted, like medicaid, to force poor people to work for slave wages and into minimum wage jobs. So on one hand, enough money goes into medicaid to pay for my healthcare but it's restricted behind a paywall. And on the other hand, the government has no incentive to make medicaid more efficient because to do empowers workers. On top of that, the income and wealth thresholds make it impossible to reach middle class income and pay for private health insurance. If the government pays for someone's healthcare, then it is more money than what can be earned working a minimum wage job. Lessening or eliminating welfare like medicaid will not change the underlying problem that lower end jobs are dead-end and do not provide any sort of productivity to enable oneself to escape poverty. This restriction of welfare is also why universal health care, student loan forgiveness, free college, are all opposed- to keep people desperate to be under the boots of employers. And why things like weak labor unions, illegal immigration, and competitive labor markets, are supported- because they undercut labor power.
