My coworker was once pulled over for a traffic infraction, and he disclosed to the deputy that he had his CCW in the vehicle (which he didn't have to disclose because FL is not a "duty to inform" state). The deputy responded, "Well, if you don't go for yours, then I won't go for mine," and carried on with the his duties regarding the traffic stop.

Such a minor detail! Alito got that wrong...back in the day when we didn't have so much evidence that police are crooked as can be. Now we know.

I like it! But pretty sure this falls into the same category as "poking the bear."

Negative. Have your license, registration and insurance ready on your dash, car and radio off, window down and hands on steering wheel...all before the cop gets to your door.

In a nutshell..."It depends on your local laws and judicial system." In the case you cite, the cops were investigating a potential loitering infraction, if anything. Yet, the presence of a single round set them off so much that that commanded the occupants out of the car to perform a search...for officer safety? Fucking asinine!

I think you should answer every question...with a question...like in 40-Year Old Virgin. LOL!

You should know something is up when an interrogator sits uncomfortably close to you, such as shown @0:20. That's a clear signal that it's "lawyer time." Actually, you should never agree to answer questions without an attorney present.

Let me get this straight. If you have a CCW, some states require disclosure to an LEO during a stop. But if you don't have a CCW, you do not have to disclose? WTF kinda BS is that?

It is becoming clearer each day that we are being pushed to be more like China: less freedom, more government. And fascist companies, like Ford, are encouraging it. Very discouraging, and paints a sad picture of the future.

Interesting how some courts, especially the SCOTUS, can fuck up the 5th Amendment, which states: "No person shall... be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law." Detaining you for no identifiable reason is NOT due process and is most certainly depriving you of liberty.

I believe the point is that $900k isn't enough to punish the department that allowed this clear abuse of power. I think a better attorney would've been able to get more based on Jr being deprived of his meds, which clearly affected his behavior.

It seems the answer to all of your "Can the cops do this?" question is always, it depends on the state.

Love my Florida. No duty to inform.
