@badcornflakes6374 - They were objectively hundreds and hundreds of years behind Europeans. This is not hating on the people themselves, it is expected that a people isolated from the old world wouldn’t take the same evolutionary paths of their cultures. It would be quite unlikely they would randomly end up at the same level of technology as Europe. I really hate how some people contort historical facts because they feel they need to defend minorities. It is condescending and paternalistic. They weren’t less valuable as humans, but they were quite far behind on a technological level. Don’t let your emotions get in the way of facts.

@Master...deBater - Contrary to the “noble savage” myth, Native Americans were every bit as aggressive and war like as Europeans. I am sure you know this already. I just grow tired of the framing as if Europeans were uniquely evil, erasing a peaceful people from their lands. There were peaceful natives and extremely war like natives. An interesting story is that when the very first English colony arrived in America, they ended up starving, losing many people to hunger. They asked a nearby tribe for food a few times, and on the third time the natives were sick of it. Instead of just telling the Englishmen “no”, they captured their leader and a few others. They tied the leader up to a pole and the women of the tribe skimmed him alive with clam shells. They threw his pieces of flesh into the fire while doing this. They finally lit his skinless body on fire while he was still alive. They weren’t threatened by this group and had no reason to be so brutal, but it is what they did. Many natives practiced slavery and genocide on other tribes. People need to understand natives were humans just like Europeans.

@Master...deBater - I am just thankful live in the modern age so that is far less likely to happen to me. If my birth was 300 years ago it could have been much different. I am sure you have read some really interesting accounts!

I don’t know, for the most part it is OK, but I find it kind of odd that Native brutality is just brushed off as culture. Beating wounded men to death and disfiguring them is ghastly no matter how you justify it. You could use the same logic for Europeans, saying that conquering natives and relegating them to reservations was just part of their culture. Doesn’t really make any of it any better. When the very first English colony landed in America, they ended up starving and asking for food from the natives multiple times. On the third time, the natives grew angry and captured the Englishmen. They took the captain and tied him up to a pole and had the women of the tribe skin him alive with clam shells, throwing his skin into the fire in front of him. After he was skinned alive and still breathing, they lit him on fire. You could say that this was all “culture”, but does it really change how brutal it all was? One thing is for sure, the natives had their women commonly engage in extreme brutality that just wasn’t seen in Europe. Could you imagine European women going on to a battlefield and beating wounded men to death?

@Benson_aka_devils_advocate_88 - The war like tribes like the Comanches and Apache didn’t need a climate reason to destroy other tribes, that was their whole thing. They were a very violent and vicious people, hated by many other tribes. Their cruelty was quite well known.

@thehistorysquad - Another American here, I also really appreciate your videos, so informative and so fun!

@thehistorysquad - Did you have American beer? Do you enjoy American beers or do you stick strictly to European varieties? We have some horrible beer here like Budweiser, but quite a few good ones as well with all the micro breweries we have.

@kenj.8897 - That is the history of humanity. Anyone trying to sell you the “noble savage” myth or the “white people are exceptionally evil” myth is just historically illiterate. The modern progressive stack of victimhood has made so so many people dumb.
