Huh, in Russia you don't have that freedom, yet this guy defends that country lol

@marky mark - His point not only is illogical and in the extreme minority, but his views were proven wrong time and time again. No one in the US takes his opinions into account when dealing with Russia

@marky mark - Well, if you want to see him caught off guard, look at his New Yorker interview. He was adamant Russia wouldn't try to take Kyiv until overwhelming evidence forced him to make concessions. Why was he adamant about that? Why are his positions always lining up with Russia? Why is he a favorite of Russian propaganda? He likes being Russia's "guy" in the West, that much is obvious. How else could you explain his illogical opinions? That Russia actually thought NATO was going to harm them. Oh wait, no it was the Nazis in Ukraine. Wait, no, it was protecting the minority Russians. Russia just blasts out a millions excuses, and this guy just happens to fall in line with their position every time. There is a reason he is in the extreme minority, his peers see him for what he is.

@kingoftheseamusic - OK? I am sure the average Russian really thinks they are rooting out Nazis too, lol

@user-wq9mw2xz3j - This isn't coping. This isn't nationalism ans brain dead reactionary takes. Putin runs a government structure that could most closely be described as "mafia like". That is not an exaggeration. There is no legitimate opposition allowed in Russia. Putin whacks anyone who gets too far out of line. Russia has no stable structure from which to build something good. There are obviously great Russian people, but their government and a significant portion of them hold an ideology most developed countries ditched long ago. Russia knows the US isn't going to attack them, even after invading a European country the US didn't attack them. They are taking Ukraine so Putin can put a feather in his cap for his legacy. I think his recent health scares made him think of his own legacy. That is the problem with authoritarian countries, one man can make bad decisions and the whole country goes along with it. Democracies give you the option to vote someone out, no such luck in Russia. I just can't fathom how someone could look at how they run things internally and then think they would be logical with respect to foreign policy. This isn't a proper modern democracy, Russia can't seem to handle such a thing.

This guy said NATO expansion is dead. Finland just joined. Hahaha. Not the smartest guy.

This guy makes so many mistakes. He had a more recent interview in the New Yorker, shortly after Russia invaded the rest of Ukraine. He still blamed it on the US. He also said he didn't think Russia was trying to take Kyiv. Come to find out after finding classified documents, they wanted to take Kyiv in the first few weeks. Lol, this guy is a joke. Russian apologists and Arabs/Africans/etc.. love him because he blames everything on the US. And like everything they usually believe, it turns out to be wrong.

@bhaashatepe5234 - You mean invading country's ethnic groups were attacked? That's normal dude
3
This guy is not intelligent. He thinks Ukraine can't decide its own fate lol
3
@Ariel MORANDY - Well, let's see, he is repeating Russian talking points verbatim, as if Russia and the US get to decide for Ukraine. His position is a minority in his own field, most academics think he is incorrect. I have a degree in Biochemistry and work as a research chemist, so part of my job is being acquainted with journals and the academic world. Just because someone has a PhD doesn't mean they are right, come on now.
3
@ArielMomo18016 - Really? Because he looked like a fool in his New Yorker interview, still clinging on to outdated ideas.
3
Terrible analysis, there is a reason this guy is in the minority. Ukraine isn't Russia, it doesn't do what Russia tells it to do because Russia is all scared.
2
You are the type of person who loves professors like this. They are brain dead and Russia supporters, so they think that this guy gives them credibility. Here is a hint, he is in the minority, you're still crazy
1
@siguc - OK, but his opinions on Russia have already been proven wrong. He was adamant they wouldn't try to take Kyiv. He is just a useful idiot for Russians, nothing more.
1
@fcuk_x - No such thing. Did you know their soldiers castrated a POW and then they dragged his body behind a truck? And Russia protected them. Russia is a mafia state not fit for modernity.
1
@user-wq9mw2xz3j - The lone person who can actually make decisions in Russia is irrelevant? Lol, it couldn't be further from the truth. He is the ONLY relevant decision maker in Russia. That is the fate of authoritarian regimes. They act like a mafia at the highest levels, yet you think they are logical about foreign policy, lol. Russians support the war because Putin controls the media. I also think many Russians wish they were as powerful as the USSR, so they probably enjoy flexing their muscles. What I am 100% sure of is that Moscow wasn't afraid of "Nazis" in Ukraine or the US setting up shot to attack Russia. Even the slimmest amount of critical thinking will dispel those myths. Or did you actually buy into the bit about glorious Russians cleansing the land of Nazis all because of a single battalion named Azov. I mean, come on dude, have you been paying attention?

1
@ - Anything to do with Russia and he loses all credibility. He is a favorite of Russian news channels and I think he lets that bias him. He said emphatically that Russia wouldn’t invade and then looked like a fool when they did.
1
Lol, this man thinks Ukraine has to ask Russia for its own sovereignty. Sorry, that is the old world order. Ukranians aren't going to go along with this guy, only Russians like him
1
Putins soldiers castrated a POW. W How is that the west's fault?
1
@randominflow2085 - This guy is a joke. Our academics aren't going to just give up on Ukraine just to please Russia. Screw Russia, I hope we keep upping the aid and I will vote for anyone who will
1
It is because he acts like Ukraine's sovereignty is up to Russia. He can't envision the fact that the US is helping a democracy resist a totalitarian invasion. That is why this guy doesn't know what to say except "stop funding Ukraine!" now. He is a Russian apologist
1
@MV - Lol, have you read his New Yorker interview? He back pedaled and said "No, I don't think Russia was trying to take Kyiv" and then a couple of months later they found the Russian plans to take Kyiv in a few days. So yes, he did look like a fool. He is just a Russian apologist, nothing more. He is a small minority that isn't taken seriously. Just because you have been brainwashed by Kremlin talking points you think he is credible, haha
1
@stinger7799 - No. Ukraine very much does not want to be under Russian control, no Eastern European country except for Bealrus does. They know that Russia means only bad things for their region, as they have historically proven again and again. Ask yourself why they couldn't wait to join NATO
