Yep. I was constantly amazed that the guy was able to push through so much to achieve his goal, and he comes across as such a humble and likable guy. Props to him for going down in history books!

@rdizzy1 - Barely any therapists use evidence based therapy because there is very little evidence based theory which even works. Behavioral modifications seem to be the best therapy you can get, but most people just want to talk and think that will cure everything. In fact, exercise is by far the most effective anti depressant and general antidote to poor mental health in general, but people just can’t be arsed to be exercise. Getting outdoors also has evidence that it helps a lot with mood, so getting outdoors to exercise is probably the most effective way to combat a lot of mental health problems. It is way more effective than going to a therapist

@tmst2199 - They have a terrible working culture. It is important you have a culture that values work, so it isn't that Japan is wrong about that, it is how far they take it. Work is simply a means to an end, to have a fulfilling and safe life. The Japanese make work more important than anything, and they expect so much from workers that it creates society wide stress and suicidal ideation. They are not getting a better quality of life by pushing so far, they need to ease up a little bit and they would do better. On the darker side of things, they also tend to have a supremacist view, thinking the Japanese are better than any other race. This drives them to work harder than any other country, and it has had a lot of negative effects.
