@wendelloreilly8676 - Ya, where are people getting this idea that the majority of Germans weren't like that? Not everyone was, but a solid majority was pretty indoctrinated.

@andrewcraig3113 - I think it is all imprecise non sense to be honest. We have understandings of neural nets, and once those understandings are fleshed out more, we will have a mathematically sound way of describing our thoughts. The natural sciences have basically replaced philosophy for all intents and purposes. The only thing which is real are the hard sciences. Fields make particles, particles make atoms, atoms make molecules, molecules make macroscopic objects. The brain runs on neurons interacting via electromagnetism and data correlation through complex neural nets. You can see how neural nets evolved from simple layers which reacted to and encoded stimuli all the way up to the neocortex. Philosophy described extremely vague and imprecise ideas about abstract ideas, they are practically worthless in the modern age. That is why philosophy drastically decreases after the natural sciences rose to prominence. They are living on borrowed time already

That makes no sense saying North Korea is a democracy. Saying the party is the people is just a slogan, the actual decisions are made by a dictator.

@Nigel Watson - OH my God dude, don't you feel embarrassed saying stuff like that? It is so immature and childish. Is that the height of your descriptive powers? Because to anyone under 40, you look pretty crazy. Only republican boomers would laugh at that.

@lucasqualls5086 - I am way late to this, but the soviets said they supported things while doing the opposite. It was hell in the Soviet Union for workers and they had slaves too in the gulags. I swear communists did the best PR job of all time convincing westerners they had some utopia in mind when they were every bit as brutal as the German system. The only difference is that Germans wanted to wipe out certain races while the Soviets wanted to wipe out people no matter their ethnic origin. Anyone who stood in the way basically. They also tried to paint the nazis as far right when they were very much a socialist origination. Basically? Everything which came out of the USSR was a lie, but some lies worked better than others. They needed to “other” the nazis to make themselves seem like moral heroes fighting for the people.

@lucasqualls5086 - I mean, millions of Ukrainians and other minorities died. They literally starved Ukrainians to death. Not exactly different than the nazis.
1
@lucasqualls5086 - They did ethnically cleanse minorities in the regions south of them. They also performed a genocide of Ukraine. They just didn’t have specific groups they wanted to get rid of, it was more of whatever Stalin’s paranoid mind came up with. So, I really don’t think they were any better than the Nazis. They also killed more people than the Nazis

@andrewcraig3113 - Ethics are malleable and completely subjective depending on the goal and parameter restraint. For now, it is a good fit for philosophy because philosophy lives in the margins of science. At some point, we will have a powerful enough model to quantitatively ask AI something like “Give me an ethical system which maximizes human health, minimizes crime, maximizes production, maximizes interpersonal harmony, etc…” Philosophy reminds me a lot of religion, living in the gaps of our scientific knowledge while having absolutely no firm foundation. It really is living on borrowed time

@TheGiantMidget - Oh god, now philosophy has value for being spiritual? Ya, this is why no one takes it seriously
1
@TheGiantMidget - Because we have taken care of all of our needs to such an extent that people no longer have to strive for survival. Part of being human and being fulfilled is the struggle to live and live better. That is why things like exercise helps tremendously with things like depression. We used to do physical tasks all the time so we naturally were far less depressed. If you could get all the lazy and obese citizens to get off of their ass and start exercising vigorously, the majority of them would see their depression go away. So, it isn’t materialism, it is living in a comfortable society. It is easily remedied by exercise and certain other activities, so it has nothing to do with “materialism” or a lack of abstract moral codes dubiously provided by philosophy. Perhaps read the scientific literature if you want a better idea, since it does a far better job than philosophy in explaining it. I am guessing you have no interest in doing so because science requires an actual understanding which is tethered to reality, so you can’t just patter on with metaphysical mumbo jumbo and have none of it verified with empirical studies. Science requires actual intelligence, philosophy not so much.

Capitalism for the win. This video alone should make socialists realize their system is entirely inferior, but if logic worked on socialists they wouldn’t be socialists.

I understand politicians will spin stuff to the public, that is to be expected. I think it was a good move by Roosevelt though. Can you imagine a world where nazi Germany had all of continental Europe? Even if the soviets would have eventually won, that means all of Europe would have been communist. Out of the options, the US forcing war and helping defeat nazi germany while saving some of Europe from communism was by far the best decision. I swear some of you think a nazi controlled Europe would have been a good thing
