@LeonWagg - Except the Soviet Union had fallen behind dramatically to the West. Even if resources were distributed more evenly, those resources were so pathetically outdated compared to the West, there is no way it could have continued. Like when Soviet leaders went to the US and thought supermarkets were just there for show. They didn't realize the quality of life was so vastly better in the US, normal grocery stores weren't there as props to make the US look better. Communism doesn't work, it is a very inefficient way to organize an economy.

MyMLGshoe - It failed because it is a terrible ideology which does not work. It suppresses human rights and rewards laziness the same as hard work. I am guessing you are probably around 14 though, you will learn as you read more and grow older. Everyone is a communist when they are young, naive, and dumb. You will grow out of it.

@twilightgarrison3671 - No, their economy was horrible before Gorbachev. Communism just couldn't keep up with the West, not by a long shot, not to mention their horrible treatment of their own citizens.

@twilightgarrison3671 - Eastern Europe, like in the Baltics, are muuuuch better off compared to when they were in the SU. The Soviet Union was destined to fail, it simply could not win with its economy being under communism. They fell way behind the West.

No, communism is inherently a terrible system. There is no way to make it work.

@Paul - That doesn't really make sense though. Communism is the public ownership of the means of production. What you are describing is a capitalist welfare state, and those predated communism, so it really hasn't contributed anything positive.

@blackmamba5593 - Communism never worked, not in peace time, times or abundance, nor times of strige. China only became prosperous when they embraced capitalism. China has cheated WTO rules so many times I have lost count. They install state agents in any company over 50 people, meaning that it is more like fascism than anything else. Government working with business leaders and controlling them for the purpose of the state is a very German thing to do. They are notorious for cheating customers, as they don't care about having pride in their work in many cases, they just want money. Not sure if you have ever dealt with a Chinese supplier, but it is a nightmare sometimes. So, overall, I think you are extremely misguided at best.

@blackmamba5593 - Lol, of course, the "no true communism" trope. It isn't inevitable dumb dumb, it is forever in the grave. It is a terrible system at its core, which is something modern people like you can never seem to grasp. The Scandanavian countries have lower corporate tax rate than the US, they are capitalist countries without a single socialist policy. For someone who insists on a theoretically perfect definition for communism, you sure throw out the word socialist loosely. Socialist isn't when thr government does things, it is the public ownership of the means if production. It's almost like you deflection about communism was just that, a deflection and an excuse. How do people like you, so simple, how through life? How do you remember to breathe?
