I use to drive trucks to Detroit in the late 80s and early 90s for the auto industry. It got to a point where it wasn't worth the effort or money to go there anymore. One time I had to go to Canada for a load back to the states. If you went there it was 2 or 3 days before you got a load out of there. In the trucking industry there's a saying, if your wheels ain't spinning your pockets ain't grinning. At times I had to go to Ohio or Illinois empty to get a load, a waste of time and fuel. As the auto industry declined it became harder to get loads out of Detroit. Wait time got longer and longer offsetting what it cost to go there. More and more drivers including myself flat out refused loads going there even if we weren't delivering to the auto industry. That's another reason Detroit is a dead zone.
