  5.  @williammeek4078  Look up the paper "The Effect of Radiative Cooling on Reducing the Temperature of Greenhouses" published in Materials- excerpt from abstract: "Recent works have demonstrated that radiative cooling, releasing energy via radiative heat exchange where the heat is dumped directly into outer space, can be achieved by using silica particles designed to emit in the infrared atmospheric transparency window." This same technology is used to cool greenhouses passively which by definition are ALWAYS in the sun.

  6. We need to be building giant underground cisterns like the Romans did. You could even use abandoned mines, of which there are many near San Diego. Just line them with (impervious) concrete and you have a near ready-made water storage solution. We should also be building injection wells that take storm runoff and pump them into the aquifers during the winter to help them recharge. Like frakking, but with only water and no chemicals.

Couldn't we just have electrolysis stations instead of gas stations that use grid power to separate tap water into oxygen and hydrogen, eliminating transport costs and co2 emissions if the grid power is based on renewables? Everything needed already flows to gas stations. They'd just need the proper equipment as well as A LOT of power and would only need to store a relatively small amount on site to keep up with daily surges in demand. We'd probably need a crazy amount of solar panels and nuclear plants for that though.

  30. The power per unit volume is too small for that. Same reason you can't have efficient individual pumped hydro. The economy of scale and square/cube law is how this manages to work. If you have 200x the space a powerwall takes up, then it might be ok. He shows how large a tesla car battery would be using this system at 10:36.

  31. No. He literally went over this in the video with a hilarious graphic at 10:36. The energy density is 200 times lower than lithium ion batteries meaning they would be 200x larger for the same amount of energy. Think a AA battery being the size of a baseball bat.

  43. Looks like you've never tried a lightweight flywheel. The flywheel does indeed add spinning mass that adds momentum to keep the rpm's up between shifts. A lighter flywheel and the rpm's drop much faster, making it harder to shift or start from a stop.

They simultaneously save far more by not having to build their own solar facilities so that's a terrible argument, especially since they would be using the transmission lines either way and hence the cost is the same either way. It costs them NOTHING extra to take your power and spread it but it saves them money having to not generate it. Way to fall for the scam.
