  5. You sue for money, not to get people fired. Also the money doesn't come from the police or the department; it comes from the city's money which comes from taxes so us citizens just end up paying for the cops' crimes while they go on paid vacation or just switch departments if they killed someone.

  6.  @masquarra  What does that have to do with what he asked? There already is an independent department at the DOJ. It is called the Office of Internal Affairs and they already don't do their job. As the Shadow Puppet said, you really don't understand how our country works. I joined 14 years ago so you'll have to find some other way to dismiss the point.

  8. The officers cannot be personally sued as they have civil immunity for all actions on the job and if you sue the department and win the money just comes from the city; i.e. your own tax money. They win no matter what.
