Comments by "filonin2" (@filonin2) on "Was This Really a 1 in 700,000,000,000 Year Event?! - Antarctic sea ice melting fast" video.
@skoonsf The OP doesn't understand the ice is on land.

I didn't know that the whole world had a coastline with a slope of 100ft/foot. Sounds made up. I'll go with PBS's numbers over some self righteous rando in the comments with no sources.

No, it was a ridiculous joke.

@anandsharma7430 We already know how this works as we are literally just coming out of an ice age and many areas are still rebounding from the ice that was just on them 10,000 years ago. They do not spring up or cause tsunamis. It is a process of tens and hundreds of thousands of years of gradual uplift. Nothing to worry about on human time scales.

@Shonade_Malik There is no evidence of volcanoes melting Antarctica and volcanic eruptions have been steady over time while our carbon output has been exponential.

The Earth will be entirely baked dry in a tiny percentage of that time, so no. This video is superfluous. No need to watch.

Did you mean 100%?

The ice in Antarctica is on land. Not in the sea. Take your brimming full glass and throw some ice in as your simple experiment, kiddo.

@Briggsian That's why the OP suggested atmospheric aerosols. Also, why would it be impossible to paint all the buildings on Earth white? With enough money and tanks and nuclear weapons, we can make sure everyone did it. Also, you could just cover all of Africa in 2cm of silicon dioxide if you need big dumb solutions that would actually work. Sure, you'd have to mine the ocean floors for silica and that would kill everything but so will anoxia.
