1. These animals only exist in their current forms because we bred them to be docile, cows and pigs are NOT sweet or gentle in their wild forms, wild boars will even eat you. 2. There will be no need for either veganism or factory farms once growing animal tissue for food becomes economically feasible. We are already growing various body parts in labs, growing animal muscle/tissue for protein is just around the corner and won't be disgusting like all of the vegetarian replacements as you will be growing only the parts you need without ever having a complete animal to be tortured or killed.

Allison depends No need for name calling sweety, I'm just refuting your points about the animals being gentle by nature and your postion that people need to go vegan or they are a problem. If humans no longer kept livestock for food and just let them be wild, they would revert to their wild forms and would be greatly reduced in number, yes? So, not only would miss piggy and bluebell the cow become rather unfriendly horned animals you definitely wouldn't want to pet, but there also would be very few of them left.You don't have to act high and mighty just because you don't eat meat. Most people do because we have been eating meat for hundreds of thousands of years. Tofu based products are revolting to most people, and people want to enjoy their food. I suggested that an alternative could be lab grown meat, why would you oppose it? It's a different replacement for factory farms than simply forcing people to stop eating meat and the animals still don't get killed. It's much more likley to work as people won't have to give up their precious BLTs, heck you could even eat it. What would be the moral problem with eating cloned meat grown in a vat? It never felt pain, it never even had a nervous system. I understand if you have digestive problem of course.

Heiner Lilje Why would you need to slaughter anything to take stem cells for one? Second, you can just keep taking cells from the ones you already have. They multiply forever as long as you give them nutrients. Even if for some reason you needed new stem cells, you can induce skin cells to become them, no need for killing. This of course won't change the fact that nearly all farm animals would then be superfluous and would no longer be kept, and hence wouldn't be alive to begin with. As far as tofu nor being discernible, maybe with burgers, but not for any actual cut of meat. So, if no animal slaughter was needed and whole sides of beef, etc. could be grown, you'd be fine with eating meat? If so, we are in agreement.
