  1. The irony is that both the football clubs´ names, Slovan and Slavia, are related to the word "Slavic". The clubs were named in the late 19th / early 20th century as part of the Czech and Slovak defiance against Austria-Hungary. The Czech club Slavia is one of the best, and it has a Ukrainian star player, Taras Kacharaba. It was him who alerted me to the war on February 24th, 2022. The first thing I saw on Facebook was him singing, and the whole stadium with him! "UKRAINE! UKRAINE!" It was such a positive shock that Czechs, for whom "Ukrainian" had been a synonym for "blue collar worker" and had never been able to agree on anything, were so absolutely united in their support of Ukraine.
