  2.  @avielp  The important thing is knowing what you missed in the song... if you missed the break then you know it, and you'll have to work on the song more on your own. Also there's your sound, sometimes referred to as your tone. This is on you though, perhaps the guys didn't notice because you don't have a bright enough tone. You might need to try a bass flanger, it's a pedal you can get and it'll boost your signal and if you play a riff on the higher notes it'll help that riff cut through. IF you're in a band then you're fortunate to have a jam / practice space. You have to make the most of it and try not to turn up too loud. In my situation our guitarist would start turning up more as we went on. Then I can't hear myself so I git a 4 x10 acoustic bass cabinet, better sound. For a head I have a Hartke 1000LH, but I changed it to a Rumble 150 head. Then we turned down anyway and they hooked up a mixing board with ear monitors so in the room we'll turn down. That way he doesn't get complaints from the neighbors, but it's tough playing and keeping the earplug / monitor in but We get used to it. I only use one, not both ears because I still want to hear the room. Good luck in whatever your goals are.

  3. @Vincent James Voice Sure it depends on the band, some bassists like Geezer Butler was always off to the side. Gene Simmons you're gonna notice!! Of course he sings some of their songs. Then someone might tell you oh I saw you, what you do is easy. So you have to say oh you think it's easy, let's see you do it then. One time a chick told me that so I had to figure out what to say - then I heard again - it was Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley that I got it from!! Just from reading or hearing them on the internet.

  6.  @YtuserSumone-rl6sw  And Alex is always under-rated because everybody is focused on Eddie. Yes Alex was a great drummer - really the whole band was and with either singer, VH was a great band with an innovative, ground breaking guitarist.

  7. Kind of like how Ozzy always had the best guitarists, bassists and drummers but most notably his guitarists are the best. Randy is like one of those game-changer guitarists, there's only a few that did that. Kiko is one of the best Megadeth ever had.

  14.  @evangelicalsnever-lie9792  I think Eddie did have a teacher on the piano before everything, and that isn't really ever brought up. A good foundation on the piano sets a musician up for success. I agree with your view, well said.

  17. You don't know what we're talking about though. In 1982 you bought the cassette or the Vinyl and that's it. You went to you're room and listened carefully to the whole album. There wasn't much else, really no game systems, no internet, no phones... except the house phone. These guys (or once in a while a lady rocker) were like heroes (okay I see you get that), and some of them like Ozzy you were scared of at first!!! It was a whole other experience and if you got to go to a concert!!!! Well I think you're into something differnt anyway - Porcupine Tree? 😅😁

  18.  @robdurfee6861  It's good for the soul. Many years I couldn't go to concerts. Then life changed - mainly the kids grew up and I was on my own again, separated from my wife. And with freedom I got to do some things that I loved again. I went to a lot of rock concerts the past 7 years.

  27.  @sambone8348  That's a good point. A lot of them were influenced from the Delta Blues. Robert Johnson, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, and more. When was Chuck Berry? The 50's and so the birth of Rock n' Roll was then. Chuck Berry, Elvis, then the sixties Jeff Beck and Hendrix, and The Beatles.

  33.  @YtuserSumone-rl6sw  Your'e someone with an appreciation for music as a whole piece, a musician is like that. I play bass guitar, electric guitar, some acoustic guitar. I have an appreciation now for classical music a lot more than up to like 30 years old, and my father was a classical violinist. I went into rock n' roll in the mid 70's at 10 years old and it's always been there, through whatever phase I was in - in my life . Married, always working, helping raise our kids, then separated from her and the kids. They grew up and I got divorced!! All these bands (now classic rock) and some metal bands, of course Metallica, always were there in the background!!! So I'm playing bass again and it's a rockabilly band - everybody's like 60 years old. A helluva lot of fun!
