How can an average have a range?
21
First of all people work part time, that's how they can manage 3 jobs. Because they are still doing 40-60 hours a week. Secondly work a waitress is not comperable to the work of a software engineer. You literally earn tenfold of what a waitress does and have half of the actual work time. Also if a waitress works 45 minutes in an hour she gets paid for 45 minutes. I can work 45 minutes in an hour and get paid for the full hour.

@abuthahirdancho5045 Oh my, that's like the fundamentals of social contract my dude. You can be selfish in any system. You don't even have to follow the law. So that is kind of irrelevant. Society will always function somehow. Like Mad Max society also functions. If you're really so selfish think about it this way: there are a lot more people than you. If even half one of them is as selfish as you, you are outnumbered and you will be losing on potential profit. The same thing is the case for every one of the selfish people too. That's why everyone even the selfish people have an incentive to prevent selfishness. For instance if stealing was allowed would thieves really be so happy? If 50% of the population are thieves, then thieves cannot even steal so much, since only half of the population is working. And they are always on edge because they are potential targets to other thieves. We're lucky to live in a democracy. Act however you want but vote for good, talk for good.

@TheEnthraller It's not your concern as an individual. Do what you want. But it's a problem for society, since the production cost of a product doubles.

@abuthahirdancho5045 You're not stealing opportunities, because there are plenty of opportunities. The problem is that you're distorting the market value, so that it favors a minority. People not working optimally increases production costs and subsequently product cost. If you buy anything or use any service and complain "why do I have to pay so much for this little thing" this is why you do.

@isaac80745 It won't catch up, since if you have a problem solving job you need time to think about the problem. You can always pretend you need more time for something even if you already know the solution.

How do you know what is the price of the results you're talking about if everyone works 4 hours instead of 8?
2
@pug are you taking an average of two-three jobs? Makes little sense
2
@abuthahirdancho5045 It's not unfair towards an employer who uses you but it's unfair for everyone else.

@jacobp.2024 Come back when you've understood what I said and have a little bit of knowledge about economy.

@Cakebattered If a worker with a wage 50$/h takes 8 hours for a task instead of 4 hours, the completion price of the task is 400$ instead of 200$. I don't know what more evidence you need here.

@alexanderdinkov8002 I mean how does the hiring manager know what he should pay you? If everyone just works less they will think it's just the norm. Is that fair towards the end consumer? If a hospital has to pay 500k for a piece of software. And 250k of that 500k is people picking their nose at work. How fair is it that the patient in that hospital covers the cost of that software?
1
@Avendesora No, feel free to reread what I wrote.
1
@Avendesora Being paid per completed task would be optimal but we know that this doesn't happen. What I am saying is that if many people do this, it will warp the perception on how much a project will cost in the end and subsequently cost every end-consumer extra money. Buying food => paying for warehouse management software, paying for hospital stay => patient management software etc. Some portion of your living costs is people doing nothing, that is not fair.

@pug I know what you're talking about. I am talking about taking an average of a client based on their 2 jobs is not very statisticly significant. What if their next job was 15 years?
1
@andso7068 You didn't understand. If it's average between clients then it doesn't have a range. If it's a range of averages between clients then during the short period you cannot take a reliable average per client.

I mean if you are ready to be on edge 8+ hours a day you could just open your own company.
