"It's not my expertise so I am not going to do it" is okay when you're going to a surgeon, not so good when you have to change a tire. What I mean is, perhaps you should tone down on your disgust to people who try to do things on their own.

@costadev8970 I don't know who Chopra is, but people who are generally considered as philosophers are people who give life advice, not people who engage in fully abstract epistemological discussions. I know there are better philosophers but that doesn't take away from his argument does it?

@joshscott6914 "If by "empirical matters" you mean the actual act of measurement" - since he didn't give you a response, what I would understand here is that empirical matters are matters that are predominantly settled by measurment. The questions about human nature seem to be such matter. I've read a few books from Nietzsche when I was younger and when reading genealogy of morale. when I look back at it I think that many things in that book were was historically inaccurate. However, the rational and overarching idea that morality can subjective and something fluid is one of the most important ideas to learn (at least for me). Wouldn't this be where the line should be drawn? Sorry for jumping into your argument I am just curious what your response would be here.

I think the criticism is that there are less fundamental discoveries in our lifetimes. It's common knowledge that we are getting further with miniaturisation, material science and applications. It's just not as thrilling as perhaps for a physics enthusiast who lived during Einstein.

I think many authors write papers without describing the symbols in their formulas with the assumption that the person that was studying in the field will be familiar with these symbols. You could basically be a math major and still not understand an applied mathematical formula.I don't think it makes me a crackpot to say that this is unecessary gatekeeping.
