Instead of high yield nuclear weapons, small yield tactical nukes would pose more of a legitimate threat as they could be used without large amounts of radiation polluting the area.

@mwtrolle nuclear warfare is complicated but air bursts will create more damage in general and also more fallout. Ground bursts are good for hardened targets and reducing the amount of radiation that goes up into the air. I don't know if you remember but back in the 1980s the Reagan administration did the research and development of the neutron bomb which does less damage to structures and more damage to soft targets (people) relatively speaking. The Marxist left hated this idea because it meant invaders (USSR and com block) of any country couldn't be sure if a country might use nukes even on their own soil to stop an invader. One of the greatest deterrents of a Russian invasion of Europe was that France said it would use nukes on German soil to stop the Russians. Of course the Germans hated this idea and the Russians didn't like it either because a nuclear battlefield would be a logistical and tactical nightmare for all the armies causing huge morale issues. Russian morale outside of Russia would be dubious at best anyway. The argument for and against the neutron bomb was that it would make a limited nuclear war possible but would make the war more dangerous as escalation would be likely. Nuclear torpedoes could take out an aircraft carrier for example. If I remember correctly the US stated that if an aircraft carrier was nuked the US would retaliate with nuclear weapons. The other consideration is the half life of the nuclear radiation created. Typically, the heavier the element the more stable the nuclear isotope is which means it will last longer (not a good thing). This means that if China for example used nukes on Taiwan which is highly developed, it would be useless to anyone for a long time. We also then have to consider EMP attacks. Generally EMPS are created by nuclear explosions. I believe there is work being done on creating an EMP weapon that does not have a huge nuclear blast. An EMP attack may be the most likely form of nuclear war to happen as it is less destructive. The problem then becomes what will be the retaliation and how far will it escalate

@FrostbitexP You must be Chinese. Taiwan is independant. Does China tax Taiwan, have politicians in power, control the Taiwan military, set Taiwan policies or regulations?. No. Taiwan IS independant and has been since the nationalist Chinese escaped there. If you can make a case that China controls Taiwan I would like to hear it

-_- Why do you think the US and Israel are worse than China, Russia, or the African countries?

Cruise missiles would have a hard time getting to their targets.
