China has been split into two VERY DIFFERENT governed regions since he un-ended civil war....the older ROC/Taiwan and the newer PRC/mainland....You're confusing (and accepting) 'China' with/as PRC China despite the ACTUAL reality since the civil war....PRC China is NOT dynastic China, which ended and became the ROC.

The US One China Policy ACKNOWLEDGES the One China Principle.....a deliberately grey diplomatic agreement (which has kept the peace since the UNFINISHED civil war) between the two entities, the older ROC (Taiwan) and the newer PRC (mainland) to ONE DAY re-unite but where BOTH have very different ideas of what this might entail (understandably so when one is a healthy democracy and the other a control-freak authoritarian/communist cult). Whenever the PRC threaten to invade Taiwan they ironically threaten to break their own agreement while cluelessly self-serving.
