The One China Principle is a deliberately grey diplomatic agreement between the PRC and Taiwan/ROC (which HAS kept the peace since the unfinished civil war) where BOTH sides agree that it is in their best long-term interests to ONE DAY re-unite but where BOTH have very different ideas on what this will/would entail.....obviously so when one is a healthy democracy ......and the other a authoritarian communist cult who constantly threaten to invade/unite Taiwan and just prove that they self-conveniently DON'T understand their own agreed upon principle. The US One China Policy is an acknowledgement of The One China Principle......which is why the US fleet sail between the strait whenever the PRC threaten Taiwan (ROC) to bully-remind the self-conveniently clueless (and self-serving) bullies of their own agreement.
