I've always loathed the faux 'self help' genre that so grifts on the hopes of the easily led, especially in our creepy age of over-encouraged narcissism....Scientology always felt like a creepy version of a self-help book to me.......crossed with a pyramid scheme grift ......and some faux religion to help cult the whole lot together!

  12. It's a nice idea (and really relevant with regards to the jew-hatred issue) but then you have to also consider indoctrination too (and willingness to conform, especially via dangled carrots). I teach at uni and the uni constantly push supposed 'progressive' ideology where I have to keep saying NO to the 'free LGBT+ class training' due to the basic time limitations of just getting through the ACTUAL and existing primary curriculum AND the simple fact that all my students are overseas students from asia who just think it's all a bit odd (and at odds with their own culture) while also unnecessary, especially with regards to real value and the huge fees they already pay.

  14. I had a friend who destroyed his family with his addiction including his wonderful mum's mental and physical health. I had another friend who had to distance his family from his addict daughter to protect her younger sister who idolised her.....not an easy predicament or answer...or one I would want to have to face.

I once worked next door to a tattoo place and used to regularly use their photocopier becoming good friends with the artists, I remember them once telling me that a bloke had just had a Jim Beam barcode tattoo'd on the back of his neck and it cracked them up when I suggested that the actual barcode may one day end up repurposed as/for something else like a six pack of tampons!

  30. I'm not religious myself but Islam concerns me more than most religions simply because it is so ABSOLUTIST. The Koran (and Bible) are 'adaptions' originated from the Torah (which itself can be traced back even further) but the older Torah/Talmud and their meaning/interpretation is STILL being fiercely debated to this day, yet the later Koran is the supposed 'final' word of god which unfortunately CANNOT be questioned with a better/further/more-considered and 'critical' thinking mind.
