I would still choose the older version even if its somewhat harder to work on, mainly because of the better material quality and placement of critical parts such as the ECU and Throttle body etc. The new one seems like a lot of plastic critical electronic parts that will be destroyed easily in a minor collision and will cost a lot to replace, even for a DIY person. The older ones you could still drive through a small amount of water without any critical damage to the drivetrain and engine as long as you wash it off asap. However the new model with its electric power steering, electric water pump ETC just makes me Cringe about the repair bill after a minor water passage. And yes we know you should not drive through flood but with the weather conditions these days its unavoidable. I guess that's another reason why persons are opting for the higher crossovers and SUV's.
