  1. As a Belgian, I was a tourist in San Francisco during the 1990s and was recently heartbroken to see images of the current situation in the city, most notably Market Street. It brought tears to my eyes to see how it could degenerate so much in just a few decades.

  3.  @eeeaten  The last glacial period did not end 2,000 years ago, but about 11,500 years ago, the beginning of the Holocene, the current interglacial. But this study covers a period of the last 3,500 years, which "exactly" shows that 2,000 years ago it was so warm (Roman Climate optimum) that there were virtually no glaciers in the Alps. 1859 was the maximum in those 3,500 years, which was reached by the scientifically known Little Ice Age, from which the climate has been recovering (gradually warming) since 1859 to the level before the Little Ice Age, about 600 years ago.
