The fact that paid sick leave and paid holidays and mandatory 41K accounts are not mainstream in the US baffles me, here in Australia it's the norm, my mother's friend built up so much holiday and long service leave over the years that she takes off every Friday now, so she gets a long weekend every weekend.

  13.  @RCenal  it's mandatory here in Australia. It's called Superannuation. Your employer pays 11.5% of your wage into your super account for retirement. it is invested and grows over time

  14.  @Yunuyei  we get 5 weeks paid holidays here. it used to be 4 but the government recently put it up and 10 days of sick/personal leave a year which grows if you don't use it like the paid holidays. Then you can cash both out if you leave your job. I can't believe the US does not have this for its employees

  16.  @moogle5388  But our dollar is with more. and that's just Monday to Friday. it's time and a half on Saturday and double time on Sunday and only 20% of our workforce is on minimum wage which would be mostly young people. and the minimum wage in the US is $7.20. The average weekly earnings of someone in Australia is $1,888.80 or $98k a year. probably more than that now as wages just went up again in July
