  1. I thought those Mansfield bars on the back of all transport trucks were supposed to prevent this exact type of collision. I guess his airbag wasn’t much help at that speed either.

  3. Exactly. They should be heavier and larger in order to prevent this kind of collision from happening. They’re called Mansfield bars, named after the famous 1950’s actress Jayne Mansfield, who apparently died this same way. Her gruesome death led to changes in the design and construction of truck trailers.
