  1. Exact timing was a matter of life and death for these agrarian people when you stop and think about it. Planting, sowing, tilling, harvesting of various crops all had their place, if you wanted to maximize your food supplies that is. Getting the timing right could mean the difference between surviving well fed, and going hungry.
