Putin would’ve invaded whether or not NATO had bolstered its Eastern flanks. Putin would’ve always threatened nuclear weapons use no matter what the NATO, US and the EU did or didn’t do with their weapons. We’re dealing with a psychopath here. Don’t look for any deals, you’ll be sorely disappointed.

Just the name Patraeus has a ring of some ancient Roman or Greek warrior, like he was born for the job.

“You can’t win Putin” Where do they find their writers?

Surprised to learn of the former General’s disenchantment and refusal to participate in his own country’s voting and electoral system. Strange.

A psychopath would use the same threats, no matter what you do. May as well stick to your original plan

Soon Transnistria will have to make a choice. Russia is not a country; it is a criminal enterprise, a terrorist state and should be labelled and shunned as such. Therefore, any country dealing with or giving money to Russia in exchange for oil or gas should be sanctioned as supporting terrorism.

Why can’t Ukraine ‘buy’ the kinds of military weapons it wants? When did this suddenly become a hand wringing exercise?
3
What century are you from?
2
Putin would’ve threatened nuclear war no matter what position Europe and NATO would have taken, or not. This is the rhetoric of a bully and a psychopathic mind.

14 and 15 year old boys will soon be conscripted into service and support battalions (admin, medical, graves & registries, cooks, mechanics, weapons tech., etc.)

Anything short of an utter military rout, and a complete and total humiliation on the world stage would be seen (mistakenly) by Putin as a sign of weakness on NATOs part, and therefore possibly invite further encroachment on other European countries by Russian forces. This is why an utter rout is the most sensible option for NATO and Europe. The sooner the better.

I would hold of judgment on this analysis until we hear from Chap Chipman
1
Yes, valid point. And relevant now more than in 1994
1
Russia is not a country. It’s a criminal organization, with terrorists, dressed as troops
1
Flood the world markets with gas and oil, and drive the prices down, so Putin’s oil and gas are worth less than they are now
1
Cute
1
Russia isn’t a country it’s a mafia organization, a criminal state
1
Of all of Putin’s 4,000 personal body guards I’m sure at least a few of them have brothers dying in the Russian armed forces currently fighting in Ukraine.
1
Last week N. Korea fired another nuclear warhead-capable ICBM. They’re in desperate need of attention, since the world is preoccupied in Ukraine right now. The same could be said for Putin, leader of another pariah state seeking attention from the west, before his days are over.
1
Putin is angered by the Kerch bridge blast, but not over the Nordstream natural gas pipelines
1
Either a missile or a seaborne detonation.

It is foolish to think Putin himself has some sort of nostalgia for empire, or ‘the good ole’ days’ of the Soviet regime; no, he is merely playing into the nostalgic aspirations of his people, specifically the older generations who actually do remember living under Communist rule. He will pretend to be nostalgic, but this is just an act to appease his ‘voters’, as we say in the West.
1
Another Putin apologist?
1
Megalomaniacs always interfere in their own plans
1
Putin is uniformed, but even worse, he can’t see this or admit it.
1
No Russian general would push the button if ordered to by Putin. They’d rather go to jail
