  2. Palestinians have always had the absolute right to self-defence, not the other way around. Israel does not have any legal rights under international laws, or any moral rights to self-defence vis-a-vis Palestinians and Hamas. An occupying power cannot claim self-defence against that group which it occupies. Such an idea is absurd, even on its face, like a murderer calling the cops to report he was assaulted by his victim, who punched him while trying to defend herself.
