  18. Ethics scandals? So what? Every politician and every party has this blemish in their names. Nothing illegal and nothing criminal was done, so try harder. Housing prices? How on earth is that the responsibility of any level of government? The last time I checked Justin Trudeau does not determine the cost of housing in this country, developers do. Complain to them instead.

Most of these soldiers probably had little to no choice but to “volunteer” for war for the sake of the Dear Leader. Also, they heard there was food in Russia.

One possible scenario is the pilots were attempting a SECOND go-around but couldn’t attain V1 on their one good engine, hence the belly flop without landing gear and the unusually high speed for what appeared to be a landing. No flaps, no spoilers. High speed and no landing gear. They were trying to take off, not land

  28. What if .... they weren’t trying to land, they were trying to make a second go-around (TOGA)? Everything about the plane’s configuration suggests a take-off, not a landing: the gear was up, the spoilers were down, the flaps were retracted. The plane’s speed was too fast for landing, but not fast enough for taking off, due to both engines off, when they mistakenly believed they still had one working engine. But that earth-covered and reinforced concrete ILS pedestal at the end of the clearway and a lack of some kind of energy absorbent over-run pavement makes all this a moot point I suppose.
