  2. In Russian terminology this is carbine. Carbine is Arabic word which means just “weapon”, so I bet in different countries it can have different meanings. As example “assault rifle” in Russian will be “automat” (short form of “automatic machine [gun]”), while word riffle itself have no at all any associations with “assault riffle”. In Russia carbine have rifled barrel, while shotgun — not.
